Description:

The picture is painted with acrylic paint. The letters are painted in a graffiti style font. The words in the image is 'Sak Pase'. The letters are all different colors, but each are the same size and have black paint detailing. There is a spray paint can on the lower left corner. The background is white brick. The brick has gray detailing.

Analyze:

One principle of design is contrast. The bright saturated colors of the letters really stand out form the white muted background. The black lines are very distinct and sharp. Another principle of design is unity. The street-style vibe is very noticeable and flows throughout the painting. A final principle of design is movement. The viewer's eyes automatically go for the words in the middle. You read the top line first and then the bottom.

Interpretation:

One key aspects of the artwork was incorporating some kind of culture. The words 'Sak Pase' mean "What's Up" in Haitian creole. The culture in the Caribbean is very much lively and vibrant. I wanted to capture the very colorful culture, as well as, portray it in a very hipster and street-style way that I feel fit with the quote.

Judgment:

I am very proud of this piece. This is the first project I did in a paint medium. I created very on point graffiti letters, and painted them very vibrant. The letters really grab the attention of the viewer. If I could change something, I would try to make the bricks and spray can more realistic. However, the background and extra image was not the main point of emphasis.

Open Choice Project-Kolesa Final Piece:  Rough Drafting: Reference Pictures: Artist Inspiration: Leonardo da Vinci- He drew sketchy drawings in his sketchbooks. They were extremely detailed but simple. Description: The piece was done in graphite. It is a picture of my dog, Griffy. The coat is done in defined sketch marks. The face is very expression-ate  of happiness. He is facing the right, and one paw is up while the others are down.  Analysis: One principle is emphasis. The dog is in the middle and has an all white background.This is also an example of contrast. The dark coloring of the dog and the blank white background. A final principle is movement. The way I drew the fur, your eyes goes with the fur's direction. Interpretation: A dog is a worldly representation of unconditional love.
